Car Parts - Engines - Tire - Transportation - Vehicles

Jun. 06, 1968 - A Rotoped Is Born: The first functional sample of the Rotoped a vehicle with a new type of driving force, is now under construction at the institute of Motorcar research in Prague. The inventor is Mr. Julius Mackerie, and the gist of the whole thing lies in the fact that twelve resilient pouches are fixed to the periphery of each wheel. Compressed air is pushed into the lower pouch which leaves the track after the centre of the wheel, through the distributor in the wheel. The vehicle pushes its way along by the pressure of the blown-up pouch. Some time ago establishments in the Units States specializing in space research and manufacture of equipment showed considerable interest in this invention. Photo shows Mr Julius Mackerie in his laboratory at the institute with the wheel of the first Rotoped constructed in its real size
