Aug. 08, 1969 - London's Happy Bus. The happiest, most colourful bus to be seen in any capital city of the world, will officially go into service in London for one year from tomorrow (August 14th). This is the first time that a London Transport bus has been painted in a livery other than red since the war. The idea of the new design originated with London-based Silexine Paints. Silexine approached London Transport with a view to painting one of its buses in a gay livery to act as a tourist attraction by reminding visitors of the wealth of buildings and historical sights that London offers. A bus was chosen since the traditional red double-decker seemed to Silexine to epitomise London to most visitors, especially those from overseas. The bus will run for a year on the No. 11 bus route linking Chelsea with the City. Today there were two private launch trips to the City and back.
