Jun. 10, 1969 - Fun Vehicle from America: In the wake of the Beatles Yellow Submarine, come this yellow Fun Vehicle from America. Shortly after its arrival at London's Heathrow Airport from Pittsburgh, today, Trans World Airlines hostess Carol Marshall, a former Miss London Airport, put it through its paces. The vehicle had been flown in aboard a TWA all cargo jet and is en route to Olympia for an international plastics exhibition to be held this month. Called an Attex, it will go almost anywhere across streams or ponds, through fields or forests, over a sandy beach or rocky terrain, and up steep hills (even with a 45 degrees gradient). The amphibious vehicle is made of a space age thermoplastic called Royalite 20. Originally it was formulated for the car industry for high temperature requirements of the American Southwest desert and the cold temperatures of the Rocky Mountains. The Substance is lighter than the lightest metal but it is so tough that it is used for boat hulls and jet aircraft parts. The outsize, specially designed tyres by Uniroyal carry a pressure of only one and a half pounds each. On rugged terrain they flex of literally bite into the surface - much like a tank tread. In America this go anywhere Fun Wagon is priced at around &620. This particular model - the first ever to be brought to the U.K was consigned by the ATV Manufacturing Company of Pittsburgh to Uniroyal Ltd. of London.
