Jul. 07, 1970 - Millionth Export Cortina Leaves Dagenham. Britain's Most Exported Car: The Cortina achieved another record today when the millionth export model was helicoptered direct from Dagenham to a waiting customer in Belgium. It completes the fastest million ever achieved by a British car in overseas markets, taking exactly seven years and ten months since the Cortina first appeared in September 1962. To mark the occasion the car - a white Cortina 1600 E - was officially dispatched from Dagenham this morning by Sir John Eden, M.P. Minister of state, Ministry of Technology.
