Sep. 09, 1973 - VW beetle a float: It's driver, Mr. Malc Buchanan (23) conceived this idea of using a VW beetle as a sailing vehicle just recently. He started out on his (Illegible) at the Isle of man in the Irish Sea, aiming at st. Bees head, situated 59 kilometers away, in the country of Cumberland. Before doing so, Mr. Buchanan attached a propeller to the car and, naturally, made it also water proof'. Among other safety measures he elongated the exhaust pipe of the car. The Sailor reached his point of destination not quite, though - 400 meters in front of it, he ran out of gasolin. Fortunately the tide front of it, he ran out of gasolin, Fortunately the tide set in drifting him and his Boat gently ashore. After filling the gasolin tank, Mr. Buchanan continued with his trip on land, heading straightly at Blackpool
