Jul. 07, 1965 - Lowest-ever fares to Paris on London's first cat Ferry: The first direct London-Calais car and passenger ferry service began on Saturday, July 3rd, offering drive-on facilities at Tilbury, roulette, dancing, 38 varieties of smorgasbord - and the cheapest-ever return fare to Paris. The new ferry, The Londoner, is operated by the Stena Line who owner, Mr. Sten A. Olsson of Gotherburg, is a leading passenger-car carrier in Scandinavia. The 2, 700-ton, air-conditioned ship has three bars, two restauranteur, a duty-free shop, foreign currency exchange and Swedish hostesses.
