Feb. 08, 1953 - Pronouncing the sentence in the greatest post-war smuggling process - The sentences were pronounced in the greatest post-war smuggling process before the Second Great Criminal Court in Aachen. Nearly all the inhabitants of the Eifel village Muetzenich sat on the prisoner's dock. They were charged with smuggling some 1700 hundredweights of coffee from Belgium to Germany. By doing that they caused the German state a loss of taxes of DM 1.300.000. Our picture shows the pronouncing of the sentences lasting fot 20 minutes with (*left) the attorneym co-plaintiffs and press correspondents. The front row shows the chief offenders, among them Ewald Foerster, Josef Foerster, Wildrath, Voell and Bloom being the gang leaders and main distributors. 47 accused people were sentenced to 214 months imprisonment all together and fined to more than DM 2.000.000 - indemnification. The customs officers Hoellring, Bliegling and Zaske accused of passive bribery were sentenced to 15 months, resp, 12 and 10 months imprisonment
