Oct. 21, 1957 - The Antarctic Relief Ship John Biscoe Leaves.. Youngsters for Tristan da Cunha - The John Biscoe left Southampton today on her annual relief voyage to the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey. She carries Christmas Mail, hampers, etc for the survey staffs at the eleven bases along the coast of Grahamland. Also aboard the vessel are Miss Rhoda Downer of Ramsgate, a schoolteacher and Mr. and Mrs. Simpson with their three sons (8, 6 and 5) who are being landed at Tristan de Cunha on way to the Antarctic. Mr. Simpson, who comes from Buckingham is to be an agricultural supt. on the island.
