Feb. 26 Giant rocket pit disclosed.:A massive launching pit to test fire enormous rocket propelled motors weighing 750 tons has been built in South Florida. Designed by Aerojet-General for the United States Air Force, the large sub surface concrete cylinder measures 53 ft. in diameter and penetrate 177 ft. into the ground. The development constructed to takes heavy payloads of the future is capable of absorbing delivery stresses of up to 3 million pounds of thrust. Photo shows newly released rocket pit looking up from the 177-foot below ground level. Cranes are used to lower man and equipment. It is believed to be the biggest such facility in the Western world
