Mar. 27 Legal history made in Britain - 11 year old girl given life sentence; Creating Legal History is Britain is the case of Mary Bell. For at Newcastle upon Tyne assizes Mary Bell who is 11 years old, was sentence to life detention for the manslaughter of 4 year old Martin Brown and 3 years old Brian Howe, at Scots cod, New castle, earlier this year. This case, which has caused so much sympathy, not only for the victims, but also for the parents of Mary Bell, has caused certain problems for the Home Secretary also for their are at present, in Britain no facilities for the long term detention of a girl of 11. While the best course of action is being decided, however, Mary is to be removed from the county Durham remand home home, where she has been detained since the trials and fix will shortly be brought to London, 300 miles from her home to the Cumberlow Lodge remand home, at South Norwood
