Oct. 10, 1960 - Trial of former Turkish leaders former President in the Box: The trial has opened in the gymnasium of the Turkixsh Naval Reserve Officers School on the island of Yassida of leaders in the fallen Menderes Regime. The island lies about 12 miles from Istanbul in the Sea of Marmara. The leaders are charged with altering and abrogating the constitution an offence under the penal code which carries the death sentences. Included in those charged is 77 year old Dr. Gelal Bayar the former President and Mr. Adnan Menderes the former Prime Minister. In all about 800 are standing trial.
