May 05, 1964 - The River Nile Diverted. At a ceremony which included three hours of speeches yesterday at Aswan, President Nasser of the U.A.R. and the guest of honour Mr. Khruschev of Russia, pressed buttons to detonate an explosion which diverted the waters of the Tiver Nile through a newly made canal which carries the water around the site while the Aswan High Dam id being built.
