Jan. 01, 1965 - Fifth Anniversary of Aswan High Dam Construction Commencement. The United Arab Republic is celebrating the fifth anniversary of the start of work on the construction of the gigantic Aswan High Dam - a special ceremony was held at the High Dam site. A Soviet delegation headed by Mr. Piotr Neporozhny, Chairman of the Soviet State Committee for Power and Electricity attended the ceremonies. High Dam Minister Mohammed Sidky Soliman said that 3, 500, 000 cubic meters of water had already been stored since the Nasser Lake storage programme was started - and that this would be increased to 5, 000, 000 cubic metres by the end of the year.
