Dec. 09 New Port Receive; Cecil Day Lewis says it will take him the best part of a week to deal with the letters and telegrams he has received from all over the world congratulating him on his now appointment as Poet Laureate. Dog Lewis, who is 63, and a former Professor of Poetry at Oxford University succeeds John Masefield who died last May, and also follows in the paths of Vordasworth, Southery and Tennyson. He lives in Greenwich with his actress wife, Jill, and their two children, 14 year old Tusamin and 10 years old Daniel - an he is equally at Home waiting detective stories, which appear tender his pseudonym Nicholas Blake, as well as poetry. In his new post he will be expected to write poetry to commemorate both Royal an public events - and for this, in the 300 year old tradition of the office, he will receive70 per year and27 in lieu of a butt of sack
