Celebrations on Mount Sinai, Greek Orthodox Monastery

Sep. 20, 1966 - Sinai Celebrations: Celebrations marking the 14th century anniversary of the historic Greek Orthodox Monastery of St. Catherine built on the north slope of Mount Sinai, were oficially started on Sunday. Attending were King Constantine of Greece and Oyprict President Archbishop Markarios, as well as Archbishops of Greek Orthodos Churches all over the world; North America, Russia, Finland, Jerusalem, Istambul and Alexandria. Photo shows On Monday, the King and the President decided to make the trip to Mount Moses, some 1700 metres high form the site of monastery and seperated by anarrow valley from the Mount of the Monastary. They went on camel back as far as the 4000 steops paved in the mountain leading to the peak on the Mount where Moses received the Ten Commandments
