Sep. 09, 1956 - Wife baby husband has great hopes for both: A husband haunted for 142 days by the dread that he might have to choose between the life of his wife and that of their unborn child was told last night that both may yet be saved. Twenty two year old Mrs. Ellen Moore, injured by a falling log while on her way to an anti-natal clinic last May, has at last shown signs of an improvement. As 25 year Vacuum-cleaner salesman Kenneth Moore, her husband, walked from ward 27 at Newcastle General Hospital last night, he was told, Mrs. Moore might give normal birth if the improvement over her original condition, though she is still far from normal'. Since May Mr. Moore has sat beside his wife's cot every night, holding her hand. The baby is due in December. Some of the greatest brain specialists and gynecologists have helped to keep her alive since that day when a giant log struck her after rolling from a lorry.
