Mar. 27 The Friendliest Place In Upon Speakeasy: Will the fashion for Speakeasy spread to this country? In America this type of drinking place - which had its origin in the time of prohibition - is becoming very popular in its modernised version. A Speakeasy is friendly informal place where a follow can enjoy his wine or beer and watch some pretty girls go through a dance routine. The waitresses - or hostesses - serve the drinks clad in fetching fish-net tights and conventional CanCan costumes. The decor is usually staid, almost period, all adding to the scene of friendliness and relaxation. These pictures were taken at the Speakeasy in Washington D.C. There are three rooms, two downstairs and one large one up stairs. There are about 40 dancers who work intermittently from 7 pm -9am. In one of the rooms at Speakeasy, Washington D.C. they cater for people who like to dance picture shows energetic youngsters having a good time on stage which acts as dance floor while some of the professional dancers take to the tables
