Chandigarh inaugurated as Punjab capital, India
Oct. 10, 1953 - Indian President inaugurates Punjab Capital: Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the Indian President, recently formally inaugurated Chandigarh, a new city which, in the words of Mr. Nehru symbolizes India's freedom unfettered by the traditions at Chandigarh from all over Northern India to see the President bless Punjab is still unfinished capital, and saw him press an electric button and unveil a Master Plan of Chandigarh. The Chief Minister, Mr. Sachar, who has been largely responsible for the early adoption of Chandigarh as the State Capital, welcomed the President to the City.
