1981 - 85th. Birthday Of Charlie Rivel (aka Charles Andreu). The acrobat'; can celebrate his birthday! Charlie Rivel, one of the greatest clowns of the world, will become 85 years on April 23rd. 1981. Just nine-year-old, Charlie, the son of a couple of artists, made his debut in the circus-ring; 1924 he came to Germany for the first time. When he started his career he was brilliant as an imitator of Charlie Chaplin, but in course of time he found out is personal, incomparable style. After the Second World-War, 1952 Charlie Rivel made his first big tour through West Germany, - afterwards he periodically came back. Charlie's three sons also became clowns, but till now, they didn't become so successful and famous as their father. Among others, Charlie Rivel - born in Spain and settled in Paris since a long time - was awarded with the Ernst-Renz-medal of the company of West German friends of circus as well as numerous international awards
