Oct. 25, 1957 - 25-10-57 Chief Constable of Brighton arrested. Conspiracy for fraud charge The Chief Constable of Brighton, 57 year old Charles Field Williams Ridge, was today arrested in his office at Brighton. Also arrested was Detective Inspector Richard Hammersley, second-in-command of Brighton CID and Anthony John Lyons, owner of Sherry's Bar, Brighton. Scotland Yard officials have taken over administration and control of Brighton's 280-man police force. The men concerned appeared in court today and were charged with conspiracy.
