Chess pieces in gold and silver, London exhibition

Apr. 09, 1974 - April 9th 1974- Kings and Queens from the Ancient game of the chess on Exhibition at Goldsmith's Hall. Kings and queens from the ancient game of chess will be on exhibition at Goldsmiths Hall, Foster Lane, in the City of London from April 10th to 25th. This is the first exhibition of new chess pieces to be held in Britain, and the pieces are a selection by Dr. Ulla Stover for a competition called Die Dame und der Konig which was held by the Gesellschaft fur Goldschmiedekunst at Hamburg in 1973. To avoid the expense of making complete sets of chess pieces, competitors were only required to produce one king and one queen, which had to be made from gold or silver - alone or in combination.
