Children in replica Coronation Day uniforms
Mar. 31 Her Majesty's uniform sets a fashion for girls. Kings and Queens has always been a favourite game for little boys and girls - and with Coronation year and a Queen on the throne, little girls will come into their own. On sale in the shops now are near replicas of the Queen's Guards Uniform which she wore at the Trooping of the Colour last year. It consists of a scarlet suede jacket trimmed with gilt plastic and gold braid, navy suede for the skirt and a twirl of fur-cloth with a feather in it for the hat. The tunic has single buttons, instead of the groups of three, but like the Queen's it does up on the men's side. The uniform costs 55 shillings and is made to fit little girls between seven and eleven years of age. The children wear Wellington boots to complete the outfit. Little boys are not forgotten either - for them are replicas of the navy blue uniform to be worn by the troops who will line the Coronation route, and also replicas of the full dress uniform of the Guards.
