Apr. 12 The Uros people, belonging to one of the oldest races of Peru, are known worldwide for boats made of reeds, are sailing on Lake Titicaca, located in the Peruvian Andean plateau which is 3, 815 km in height. Confined to the vicinity of Lake Titicaca before the Spanish conquest, the Uros resorted to the curious method of planting crops on floating islands made of reeds and covered with earth, on which they traveled with their families and animals in search of the best climates. This ancient people who survive mainly on fishing, is dying out due to disease mainly to the continued malnutrition, which led to the fertility of their women slowing down to the point of the possibility of total extinction
