Feb. 02, 1971 - The lost city of the Incas. The fortress city of Machu Picchu, known as the Lost City of the Incas, is situated in a wild and impressive region near Cuzco. Machu Picchu was discovered in 1911 by Professor Hiram Bingham. Reconstruction has been carried out and today visitors come from all over the world. According to the theory held by many investigators, the buildings at Macchu Picchu would be the remains of a legendary city of Tampu-Tocco, a holy city, which dates back to the origin of the Inca civilisation.
