Chimpanzee plays Hammond organ, London
Jul. 07, 1970 - New Musical Instrument that gives everybody instant talent: A new musical instrument which has been created to satisfy all those people who long to play music but have neither the time nor the inclination to learn, was announced today by the Hammond Organ Company, Edgware, Middlesex, called the piper, it puts instant playing success and musical ability at your fingertips. It is not an organ but looks like a cross between a computer and a piano. Computer Technology and electronic engineering skills have been combined in the piper to give the musical novice the ability to play in perfect time with both hands and to create, without difficulty, the exciting rhythms and provocative sounds of modern music. The player's left hand plays automatically in time with whatever rhythm has been selected on the control panel located above the keyboard. The sounds of the rhythm section include drums, bass, cymbals and maracas. Photo shows Rosie the chimpanzee demonstrating that anybody can play in Latin American, rock and roll or waltz time on the new musical instrument, the piper, which was introduced to the press at the Churchill Hotel, London, today
