A Chinese girl carried firewood to her home using the short out through the facade of St, Paul's Church which is all that remains of the building which, completed in 1637, was considered a wonder of the time. it was designed by Father Spinola and the labour carried out by Japanese artisans who were Christians. Attached to the Church was a seminary for the training of missionairies, this caught fire in 1835 the flames of which spread to the church
