May 06, 1974 - 20th. Anniversary Of First Four-Minute Mile: 20 years ago today, Roger Bannister became the first man to run a mile in less than four minutes, and to celebrate the occasion. Dr. Roger Bannister, now Chairman of the Sports Council, together with Chris Brasher and Christopher Chataway, who took part in the historic race twenty years ago, appeared on the BBC Radio 4 programme Start the Week, with Richard Baker.
