Nov. 11, 1960 - The Christmas illuminations are switched on in the West - End: The Christmas illuminations in Oxford street and Regent street were switched on this evening by Lord Mancroft when he pressed a switch in an Oxford street store. In Regent street 46 larger than life size Stylised angels, blowing golden trumpets, were festooned in fairy lights, while simultaneously in Oxford street white stars burst into radiance high above the road.
