May 31, 1967 - Works of Art by an Ape are Auctioned. Fifteen of the paintings by a five year old chimpanzee, Cindy Lou, who has been painting multi coloured splodges for a year at the Dudley Zoo, Worcester, were sold at an auction. The auction was conducted by Birmingham Horst Klose None of the first 10 lots reached the mark. But then, when lot II was shown, Mr. David Earle, a 30 year old surveyor from Henley in Arden, Warwickshire, paid 5.10s after a brisk bout of bidding. altogether the auction raised 9.8S.6d. for the World Wildlife Fund.
