Clash in parliament over violence legislation, Tokyo

Jun. 07, 1961 - 7.6.61 The Japanese government anti-violence bill causes violence in Japan. The controversial Political Violence Prevention Bill which was approved by the House of Representatives Judicial Affairs Committee after repeated clashes between the Liberal Democratic and Socialist parties, caused widespread demonstrations in Tokyo and other Japanese cities. The Socialists tried unsuccessfully to block the passage of the Bill by physical force in the Diet. Over four million people, including the militant Zengakuren students, clashed with the police.
