Mar. 27 Half Cleaned statue of Saxon King for European tour; Stone cleaner Bill Fitzpatrick, seen putting the finishing touches to a half cleaned statue of a Saxon King, which is to be taken on an exhibition tour of Europe to show the effects of pollution and the possibilities of restoration. The statue was recently removed from the Black Rod niche in the House of Commons, and the Department of the Environment commissioned the London Stone and Restoration Company to clean half the statue and leave the rest with its coating of soot
