Clergyman playing guitar for young parishioners
Feb. 26 Both Sides Now. This could well be the cry heard when crowds of teenagers come running for their very own double decker bus in Stratford East. They come running for the but - what's unusual about that, we all run for a bus? not because it's about to drive off and the driver won't wait. Not at all; in the first place it never moves and in the second place there's no driver. This bus is a very special sort of bus and is the brainchild of Father Neville Symington of St. Catherine's Church. He had been looking to start a coffee bar for teenagers in his parish when the promoter of Hackney Wick Stadium offered him a bus and immediately Father Symington realised the potential of the vehicle. It provided him with two floors - one where the coffee machine could be housed and another where music could be played. This double decker coffee bar has proved to be a great success with the local teenagers, and any evening the place is full with teeming youngsters who come to listen to the visiting folk singers and musicians. The inside of the bus was soon knocked into shape and now the lower deck is the music deck, and the with-it young priest provides some beat music for his young parishioners
