Jul. 07, 1952 - Nearly all the schools have broken up for the summer vacation and the great schoolroom airlift of the summer has begun. 1, 400 boys and girls will be carried by the British Airlines to the far corners of the earth to spend their summer holidays with their parents. British Overseas Airways are turning Argonaut Aircraft which normally seat 40 adults into flying play-rooms for up to 50 children. York aircraft have also been pressed into service and extra gallons of ice-cream, sweet biscuits, sweets, and soft drinks are taken aboard the aircraft. Games, draughts, ludo, comics and books are all available to keep the children amused in the transit. Pictures taken aboard a York aircraft which left London Airport with first stop Castel Benito, Libya and then on to Bahrain, Karachi, and Colombo. PS: The captain of the York aircraft chats with the children about the flight, having shown them the position on the large scale maps. Stewardess Rosamund Skinner is busy serving out Coca-Cola's and flasks of coffee
