Aug. 08, 1953 - Prof. Piccard goes under the sea to a depth of 3, 450 feet.: Professor Piccard, the Swiss physicist, accompanied by his son Jacques, recently made his first deep-sea dive in his bathysphere Trieste, and succeeded in reaching a depth of 1, 052 metres, (3, 450 feet). The point of descene was a few miles south of Capri, the bathysphere having been towed there during the night from its base at castellammare di Stabia.
