Aug. 08, 1957 - Walking Doctor nears the end of his 340 mile journey from Newcastle to London: Dr. Stanley Raimes, the 35 year old London University mathematics lecturer, who set out on August 1st. from Newcastle to walk 540 miles to London, is nearing the end of his journey. Last night, with eight miles to go, he stayed at Hendon. The reason for Dr. Raime's hike is to test a pair of shoes for the Leather Institute. He was one of 400 who answered this Institute's advertisement. Dr. Raimes is being paid £100 and expenses. Photo shows Dr. Raimes sets off from Hendon this morning on the last stage of his journey
