Feb. 29 The college of Arms: In foreground Mr. John Riddle Bromhead Walker, Rouge Croix Pursuivant examines a book of painted arms of c.1470. Onthis side of him is an old helmet of the type used at funerals; the spike accommedated the family crest. After the funeral, the helmet and crest were usually lodged in the church, but sometimes they became the perquisite of the attending Herald. In the background, Mr. Anthony Wagne, Richmond Herald does some research with one of his assistants
