Mar. 31 Former German Stuka Airman Loote The Wat Tile Enemy For Who Shot Him Down -- And Then Rescues Him: Hans Deibl, who during the war was Stuka Pilot - and is now a teacher in the small town of, in lower Austria. In May 1942 - Deibl then 21 - was shot down during the boning of the desert fort of Bir-El-Eachein - by British airman Cecil Godwin who was of South African Origin. He escaped by Parachute - and immediately after shooting down his foe - Golding, had top make a forced landing, . and after a great struggle managed to reach his baize in spite of his wounds - went in search of Deible and succeed in lathing him in the spite of heavy artillery fire from both sides. At the evacuation of Fort Birel-Hacheim, Golding requested that Deibl, now a P.O.W. be transported in the same ambulance as himself. The car was ost on the desert hour-bey and reached Tobruke after an infernal four day journey. During their travel together the two man made a vow that the one whose country won the war - would act as host to the other at some future date. Subsequently Beibl went to Canada as a P.Q.W. The war finished and Dible on being repatriated become a school, teacher - and after many many attempts has managed at last trace his rescuer who shot im down - through the South African Boy Scout Association..The couple hope to meet again soon - and keep their wartime vow.
