Jul. 17, 1964 - The London Schoolgirls swim the Channel in Relay in 16 hours 20 Minutes. Ten London schoolgirls, whose ages range from 13 to 17, today swam the Channel in relay in 16 hours 20 minutes. The party set out from cap Gris Nez and their captain, 16-year-old Janet Wiener, of Hampstead, waded ashore at Dover at 5.35 A.m. greeted with loud cheers from her colleagues. The girls from the city of London school for Girls have set up a new channel record. it is the first time that this 19-mile stretch of the toughest water in the world has been conquered by a relay team.
