There was a Press visit today to the High Voltage Electron Microscope at Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge. The 750kV electron microscope, built at Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge, and the first of its type in this country, was commisioned on June 23, 1966 by Prof. R.V. Jones, Chariman of the Paul Instrument Fund Committee of the Royal Society, during a visit of inspection by the committee. Since then, detailed negotiations with A.E.I Ltd. and the Ministry of Technology have resulted in an agreement for the commercial production of a 1 MV microscope based on the Cavendish instrument. The main purpose of a high voltage microscope is to permit examination of much thicker metal foils than is possible in the normal electron microscope at 100 kV. Keystone Photo Shows: Dr.V.E.
