Dec. 12, 1972 - Oxford Woman Gets M.A. Degree - At 100 Years Of Age!: Miss Mabel Purefoy Fitzgerald, aged 100, today received an honorary Master of Arts degree at a special congregation in Oxford University. Originally, when Miss Fitzgerald studied physidiogy at Oxford at the turn of the century, women were not eligible for degrees. However, Miss Fitzgerald went on to become an eminent scientist in her own right as well as a friend and colleague of many other Oxford academics.
