Dec. 16 Nobel Prize for West German Professor Wittig The Nobel Prize for Chemistry 1979 was awarded to West German Professor George Wittig (together with the American Herbert C. Brown, Professor at the Purdue University of Indiana). The 82 years old Wittig is retired Professor at the Heidelberg University. He got the great award for his fundamental works on the field of the organic synthesis. Berlin born George Wittig was very surprised because of this honour, which granted to him and he told, the Nobel Prize is the unexpected zenith of his life's work.
