Aug. 08, 1967 - The Guerrilla Armed Struggle In The Republic Of Colombia: The national Liberation Army (ELN) of Colombia, began its armed struggle against the government troops on January 7, 1967, when it captured the town of Simacota. In this action a manitary garrison was wiped out. The guidelines of the National Liberation Army were stated in the Simacota compunique. One of its sections expresses the commitment in liberate the country from the present appressing forces and at the same time develop the creating forces of the people. The National Liberation Army came to life as a organisation of political and military character - with military command and a political administration unified in the mountains to develop an armed struggle. It now has two f, with guerrilla combatants, the Jose Antonio Galan operating in the Santander department, under the command of Major Fabio Vazquez Castano, and the Camilo Torres Restrapo front in another area of the same department.
