Mar. 03, 1973 - Panama and Peru submit to security council call for new canal treaty: Panama and Peru submitted this afternoon a draft resolution asking the Security Council to call on Panama and United States to execute promptly a new Panama Canal Treaty, respecting Panama's sovereignty in all its territory and ensuring reintegration of the so-called Canal Zone with the rest of the country. The draft resolution was introduced by the Foreign Minister of Panama, Juan Antonio Tack, at the meeting in Panama City as the Council continued consideration of measures for the maintenance and strengthening of international peace and security in Latin America in conformity with the provisions and principles of the Charter'. Speakers at the meeting, in addition to the Foreign Minister of Panama, were the Foreign Ministers of Venezuela and Costa Rica and the representatives of Cuba, the United Kingdom and the United States spoke under the right of reply.
