Commons row over Red MP's to be investigated

Nov. 11, 1976 - Commons row over Red MP's to be investigated by the privileges committee: Allegations by a Conservative MP that several Labour MP's are crypto-Communists or Far Left extremists in political disguise are to be investigated by the Commons Privileges Committee, one of the most senior committees of the House. After bitter scenes during which the Speaker, Mr. George Thomas, twice threatened to suspend the sitting, the Commons yesterday voted 370-110 to refer a complaint by a leading left-winger against the speech by Mr. Ian Sproat, Conservative MP for Aberdeen South, to the Committee. Photo shows Mr. Ian Sproat, the Conservative MP, who made the allegations, pictured outside the House of Commons last night
