Commonwealth cake delivered to 10 Downing Street

Nov. 05, 1970 - The Prime Minister gets a sweet heart: A large heart made of cane sugar was handed in a No.10 Downing Street today. Intended for Edward Heath, the Prime Minister, the heart, which is inscribed Have a Heart for the Commonwealth was presented by members of the World Development Action Movement to emphasize their concern over the disastrous effects on developing Commonwealth countries if Britain were to abandon her commitments to them in order to enter the Common Market. Their particular concern is the threat to the cane sugar producing Commonwealth countries who at the moment sell most of their sugar to Britain. Photo shows members of the World Development Action movement carry the huge heart of cane sugar up Downing Street to No.10 today
