Mar. 03, 1956 - The Thing arrives at Associated rediffusion's Wembley Studios.: A new and unique piece of equipment for television outside broadcasts, arrived at Associated Rediffusion's Wembley Studios today. Destined to be known as The Thing, it is a mobile hydraulic platform, mounted on a Bedford chassis, which can raies a cameraman and camera up to heights of 40 feet or more. It's main advantage is that it obviates the necessity for erecting scaffolding when a high angle camera position is needed. First use of The thing will be at Hurst park on April 20 when it will carry the down-the-course camera for a bird's eye view of the racing. Photo shows The Thing pictured this afternoon after it's arrival at the Associated Rediffusion's Wembley Studios
