Jul. 07, 1957 - The amplitron tube designed to pack more power into the country's radar defense networks, is checked by Mr. Frank Cakes, an engineer of the US Army Signal Engineering Laboratories, Fort Marmouth. The tube was developed jointly by the US Army and a commercial company. It has twice the power efficiency of the magnetrons, widely used in radars today
