Feb. 29 Western Union Microwave Tower: One of nearly 300 towers which comprise Western Union's coast-to-coast microwave system. Built at an original cost of eighty million dollars, the network is capable of handling all known terms of electronic communications at very fast rates of speed. Towers are spaced about 25-to 30-miles apart, in line-of-sight, and provide higher quality data transmission than wire circuitry. Microwave also provides millions of miles of telegraph channels, replacing the fast disappearing copper wire and telegraph pole, long a part of the American scene
