Mar. 22 Pinpointing Permeability - a sample of man-made rubber from the BFGoodrich Company's Chemical Group is mounted within this device and is undergoing a permeability test to measure the rate at which gas passes through it. Thomas Hensler, laboratory technician at BFG Chemical's Avon Lake, Ohio, technical center, overseas the test. A high degree of impermeability is demanded in many rubbers for automotive and other applications. Impermeability in hoses, diaphragms and other components manufactured from the rubber reduces evaporation of gasoline and other volatile fuels into the atmosphere
