THE ELECTRICAL MOUSE WITH A SUPER MEMORY The latest scientific invention of Dr Claude E. Shannon of the Bell Telephone Laboratories, New York- is an electrical Mouse with a Super Memory.. The Mouse uses- for a brain some of the kind of switching relays found in dial telephone systems. The mouse is a two inch bar magnet with three wheels and copper whiskers and it can quickly solve more than a million milliom different mazes- learning each one rapidly and the instantly forgetting it in ordr to be ready to learn the next. Its goal-is a piece of Cheese'- which is actually a electrical terminal with a bell which rings when the mouse's copper whiskers nudge it.The maze is about half the size of a desk top-40 different slots to create the hardest possible problems for the mouse, Dr Shannon palces the Mouse'and the Cheese at different points-and after a pause to get its bearings the mouse scuttles down the corridors-bumping into fences etc.-backing and turning until in the matter of seconds it reaches the Cheese'.Having learned the correct path to the cheese'-the mouse is then set down again at any point visited during its explorations-and without making a single false move-it will move rapidly to the cheese'.. If it is placed on a poart of the maze not previouly visited-it will explore it until it reaches a known part-and then move immediately to the cheese'. KEYSTONE PHOTO SHOWS: Two pictures showing the path(right) taken by the Mouse'-during its original exploration of the route-and aon left the path taken-without a single false move-once the route has been learned... Pictures taken by time exposure and with a light fixed to the Mouse
